The best part of design tools is they let you duplicate layers/elements with a click of a button. If you’re new to Figma, this guide will help you duplicate layers and files through a simple demonstration to get you all covered.
What we cover
Duplicate Layers in Figma
- Open Figma on your browser and sign in to your Figma account, or create a new one if needed. After you have successfully signed in, open an existing design from Recents or create a new one through the Design file button.
- For demonstration, we have added a Frame featuring an image. Next, select it by clicking on it. Next, navigate to the top left corner of the toolbar and click on the Figma icon.
- Now, from the options that are displayed, click on Edit and then Duplicate to duplicate the selected layer.
Pro Tip: You can also duplicate layers by selecting them and using the Ctrl + D (Windows) or Cmd + D (macOS) key combinations.
Duplicate File in Figma
- After you create a new design or open a new file, navigate to the toolbar to find the file name.
- Now, click on the drop-down associated with it, and from the available options, click on Duplicate to duplicate the file.
Wrapping Up
Congratulations on learning how to duplicate in Figma!
We made sure to include steps for duplicating layers and files in Figma. If you’re trying to duplicate projects, you can manually duplicate files and add them to a new project. However, keep in mind that this doesn’t work in all instances, and exporting is a reliable alternative.
